It's a big decision to choose where to take lessons. We hope you join the HSS family.

Meet the Herd

Rodger That (Rodgers)

    2005 Quarter Horse Gelding 15h

Rodgers came into our lesson program in March 2018. He is a joy to have at the barn and has a goofy and wonderful personality. He has been a fantastic addition to the lesson program. After coming from a ranch where he just did walking western trail rides, he has found his love for english and loves to jump and work hard in the arena. He is super brave xc but is happy to go for a leisure trail ride too :) He can teach any advanced beginner and up about Hunters, Jumpers, Eventing, and even some barrel racing for fun. He is super versatile and becomes a favorite to anyone who rides him!

    Something Special (Ruby)

      2000 Quarter Horse Mare 14.3h

When Ruby came to us in May 2023, I knew she was going to be something special, and she indeed has been a great addition to our lesson herd. She is an old saint who loves to teach beginners and help them become confident and gain experience. She loves to be brushed and pampered and you will often find her dozing off while brushing her. She stands patiently while students work around her. She loves to go for trail rides and is happy to work in the arena as well. She prefers to just go at a leisure walk and is a sweetheart to be around. She is truly the best horse for first time riders through learning how to trot for the first time.

      Chasin' Clouds Away (Sunshine)

        2017 Quarter Horse Gelding 15.2h

Sunshine came to us March 2025 to help fill the shoes of our beloved Gem. Getting him was only possible because of an amazing community of generous donors who provided funds to purchase him. It was truly a huge blessing and I'm forever grateful for this ray of sunshine during a hard and gloomy trial!   He is definitely doing his best to fill the hole in our hearts. He needed some major TLC when he arrived and after a couple months has finally joined the lesson program. Everyone that meets Sunshine always says how sweet he is! He likes to take it easy and requires a bit of leg to trot but he is a steady guy, great to be able to learn how trot on. His slow steady trot gives students time to focus on their position. He also enjoys a leisure walk on the trails.

        Won Gold Ring (Strider)

2021 Paint x Percheron Gelding 15.3h and growing

Strider came to us in February 2025. He was graciously donated to be trained and then added into the lesson program for students wanting to jump and compete. He is an absolutely stunning tri colored paint with amazing face markings. He has proven to be very willing and eager to learn plus he is a big goof ball who loves to play in the pasture with friends or help with chores. When he arrived, he was a horse you couldn't catch in the pasture and now he is the first one to come to you and wants all the attention to himself. His personality and confidence have blossomed. Amy worked with him for 3 months on groundwork and basics and he is now beginning his under saddle training. He has a great mind and will be a wonderful prospect to bring along and eventually become a fantastic lesson horse and show horse! Many often ask about his name.... He was given the barn name "Strider" from the Lord of the Rings, in honor of the favorite book of our generous and incredibly kind donor. And his show name was a word play off the theme of the book.

          Claim The Lead (Aimslee)

            2009 Warmblood Mare 16.1h

Aimslee is an incredibly special horse. She was born and raised at HSS. She loves eventing and of course LOVES her treats! Aimslee was trained by Amy and she was her competition horse. She has won numerous championships and first places in eventing, jumpers, and dressage. When she was not in training with Amy during competition season, she was used for lessons to help beginners gain confidence learning to steer for their first time riding as well as helping beginners over their first jumps or taking a more experienced rider over some bigger stuff. Unfortunately, due to an injury Aimslee was forced to early retirement and is no longer able to be ridden.  She was bred in spring 2024 and had a healthy chestnut filly April 16, 2025. This will be her only foal since her hormones during pregnancy triggered a bad episode of laminitis and she foundered. Aimslee will enjoy her life in the pasture after her foal "Legacy" is weaned.

            Leading The Legacy (Legacy)

              2025 Warmblood Filly 11h and growing ;)

Legacy was born April 16, 2025. Her dam is Claim The Lead (Connemara x TB x Oldenburg) and her sire is Toto's Weather Tamer (Oldenburg). It was a huge relief when she made her debut into this world. She has been a spunky, independent girl and we look forward to all she accomplishes in her career. Legacy will be Amy's next upper level eventing horse and eventually will be a lesson horse when Amy is done competing her.

In Memory of Past Lesson Horses Who Left Hoof Prints on Our Hearts

              Hidden Treasure (Gem)

                2008 Paint x TB Mare 16.3

In Memory of the Sweetest lesson horse! Gem passed away unexpectedly March 6, 2025. She helped so many riders fall in love with this sport by giving them confidence and helping them always have a great experience at lessons, shows, and camps. She is greatly missed by everyone who knew her!

Gem is a precious horse. She wants to please and loves to work. She enjoys standing perfectly still for long grooming sessions and is a dream to ride. She needed a lot of TLC when she came to us in June 2022 but has blossomed.... She was a hidden treasure who turned out to be a gem! She learned how to jump and enjoys it but unfortunately her joints were proving not to hold up so she is limited to xrails. She is a delight to have in the lesson program and is happy to pack beginners around as they learn how to trot or canter and she is steady over xrails. She helps everyone gain experience and confidence with every ride.
