Amy has been passionate about horses since she was 4 years old. She took lessons as often as possible and when she turned 15, her parents finally realized this passion wasn't going to leave and allowed her to get her first horse. To help pay for board Amy began working at farms doing chores, teaching lessons, running horse camps, and putting on small horse shows. This experience at a young age, gave Amy and incredible jump start to her professional career as an instructor and horse trainer.
Amy attended Houghton College and had the opportunity to learn from several great trainers such as Walter Zetle, Carel Eijkenaar, and JoAnne Young. She also started to take lessons from Carol Kozlowski (former USEA president) and continued training under Carol for many years. Amy now takes lessons from Lellie Ward (4* eventer) when she comes to TX to teach clinics throughout the year.
Amy Becker started High Standard Stables in 2006 in Dansville, NY. While she was finishing her college equestrian and business degree from Houghton College. Amy decided it was time to open her own horse business. She had high standards for her business and since she also loved to teach jumping she decided on the name, High Standard Stables.
Amy loves to teach lessons and works to challenge and encourage each student to push themselves to become a better rider. She has taught lessons in dressage, jumpers, eventing, hunters, western, gaming, and trail. Whether the student has a passion to compete or just ride for fun, Amy is there helping them improve their riding skills and achieve the goals they have. She enjoys being not only having the opportunity to teach kids but also the opportunity to be a mentor and friend.
Amy has extensive show experience as well. She has competed in eventing, jumpers, hunters, dressage, western pleasure, and trail all with horses that she has trained.
In 2015 Amy made the incredibly hard decision to close HSS in NY and to move to TX. After getting settled in Texas, Amy restarted HSS out of a farm south of Austin. After 4 wonderful years of teaching there, she was able to purchase some land in East Texas and made the decision to close and move one last time. She moved to the new land in the end of 2021. The property was raw land and is still a work in progress, but HSS officially opened at the new location January 2023.
